As we progress into the Christmas holiday season are you becoming more aware of how greeting cards are great for business building?


You may receive greeting cards from different businesses that you are involved with at this time of year and yet you
aren't impressed with most of them. Why is this the case?

First a lot of well intentioned business will buy mass quantities of greeting cards which are printed with the name and other info on the card. They do it this way in order to save time and money not realizing that they are actually defeating the purpose for sending the card in the first place.

Ask yourself why you are sending the card in the first place?
Isn't it to remind your customer that you consider them valuable and appreciate their business?

Yet you send a mass produced card without any personal touch in it.

Consider how you feel when you receive a card from a friend
with a personal note in it as opposed to a mass mailed card that
isn't even signed by the sender. The mass produced card even
has a mailing label pasted on it which is a sign the sender may
have outsourced the mailing to someone else.

How would you feel about this card as compared to one that has
a hand written note in it in the sender's handwriting with a
real stamp on the envelope?

And if you opened it up to find a photo of yourself and the person sending it,
wouldn't that cause you to feel special and important?

This is the reason you send cards to customers at holidays,
birthdays and other special occasions. You are reminding
them that you value their business and consider them important
to you.

The personal touch will always outweigh commercially
produced cards for businesses when you employ it.

So as you prepare to contact your customers at this time
of year be aware of the image you are presenting to those
you are mailing to. In making the effort don't do it halfway.
If you make the extra effort them you will be rewarded with
happy satisfied customers who knows you value them.

More On Customer Retention

Are you aware of how much it costs you to find and
make that first sale to a new customer?

With that thought in mind it is always a good idea to practice customer
retention whenever possible.

So let's discuss the etiquette and rules for using greeting cards to retain your customers.

First is how often should you contact your customer base without being intrusive or worse yet taken for granted. The general consensus is to contact them 3 to 4 times a year.


The contacts would be in the following manner

• 1. On the anniversary of their purchase
• 2. On their birthday
• 3. At Christmas
• 4. On their spouse's and/or children's birthday

Now for the proper method to contact your customer.

• The preferred way is to send a personal greeting card on each of the above dates.
• The card should be personal in nature and be hand signed with your signature.
• No mass mailing techniques should be used.
• The card should be hand addressed and mailed with a real stamp.
• Each card should be personalized with a greeting appropriate to the person receiving it

This will insure that both the card and you are remembered.

By keeping in touch in this manner you will not only retain your customers but you will also find your referrals increasing in proportion to how diligent you keep this process going.

Another tip for using greeting cards in your business from cards are great. It is coming to that time of year when we enter into a season of holidays one after another.

This can be a stressful time for a business owner and yet it doesn't have to be. First you should make a list of all your customers and plan out a campaign to send them cards during the seasons coming up.

The reasons for doing this are many:
* It will enhance your business relations
* You can attract new customers
* Remind old customers you are still around
* You will show appreciation good customers

By using an effective campaign you can maintain your business at an acceptable level while your competitors struggle to keep up.

To implement an effective campaign you will need to employ a good strategy with quality greeting card. The cards should be personal and fit in with your business without being either sales like or offensive.

You can increase your customer retention and referrals by using greeting cards in the right way. First of all you should make sure the card is not treated as a sales piece by being hypey.

The card should be personal and friendly in tone and style. Do not include offers and specials in the card as these make it a sales piece and not a personal card. Greeting cards are great for any reason, or no reason at all, it's just a nice way to show someone they are important.

However a good time to send a card can be on a holiday, anniversary, birthday or some other special event as the reason for the card.

Remembering customer’s special dates or occasions is very important to the customer and your notice of them will make you unforgettable.

Does this method of contact work?
The answer is definitely yes.

Just ask two of the most successful; salesmen of the modern age, Tom Hopkins and Joe Girard. In his book How to Master the Art of Selling Tom Hopkins discusses his strategy of using greeting cards and thank you cards to build his real estate business.

Joe Girard in his books tells of how he sent thousands of cards to his customers on graduations, birthdays, anniversaries and other occasions to build his success in the car business. He had excellent results as he became listed in The Guiness Book of World Records as the world’s greatest salesman. There are a lot of ways to use greeting cards in your business in an efficient manner.

Let's take a look at some of the obvious people you would
send a thank you card to:

• Did you just make a great sale?
• Did one of your salespersons or team mates hit a goal you set for them?
• Did someone send you a referral?

Now think outside the box for a minute....
Did someone just take the time to listen to your sales presentation but they said NO?
Why not just say thanks to someone even if they didn't buy from you or probably never will.

Keep in mind they deserve a thank you too ... they gave you their most precious gift, their time.
Also, keep in mind that maybe it's not the right time for them now,
but it may be in the future.

You never know -- who they know. It may not be right for them, but if you are courteous and respectful and show that they have value just by giving their time to you--- Who do you think they will recommend if they do know someone who could use what you have to offer.Remember each one of us have at least 250 people we know at any one time... and so does that person.

So take the time to show you care, you will get back what you give out.

Mother's Day

Welcome to the first "Send a Card" holiday card blog.. Mother's Day was established in England in the mid-nineteenth century. Julia Ward Howe, author of the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" first suggested that Americans also observe a mother's day too. It wasn't until a spinster from Philadelphia Anna Jarvis, decided to honor her late mother's memory.....

What a thoughtful way to remember someone. Maybe you're in the type of business or organization that deals with families. Families have mom's. Just think how surprised & appreciative your clients & customers will be when they receive an unexpected Mother's Day card from you. Wow! I bet they won't be forgetting you anytime soon.
